Places To See On A Montreal School Trip

Montreal is an excellent destination choice for any class trip with your group of middle or high school students. Make it a year end experience, a language experience or immersion trip. No matter what Montreal can accommodate any of these objectives. There are many places to see on a Montreal school trip.

While French is the majority language, its ‘anglophone’ side is very present and most new French students can use a mix of French and English to communicate - what it is locally called ‘Franglais’ or Frenglish. Not to worry, everyone ultimately understands each other. It's a great part of the experience.

Old Montreal

At GO, we believe a Montreal class trip should definitely include a discovery of the Old City, Old Montreal. Going back to the late 17th century, some buildings like the rectory next to the Notre-Dame Basilica dates back to 1685. In fact, the oldest public clock in North America was first located here.

The Architecture

The very distinct architecture of Old Montreal was very practical: when looking at some of the original houses we notice the dormer windows, large chimneys and ladders on the steep roofs all designed out of necessity.

  • Dormer windows to let light in,
  • large chimneys for heat during the undeniably cold winters and ladders to put out any possible chimney fires and of course -
  • the steep roofs to help the snow slide off.

The Pointe a Calliere Museum

The Pointe a Calliere Museum is a great start to discovering the city’s past along with a ‘ghost’ walking tour in the evening. Other notable attractions feature the Olympic Stadium with the tallest inclined tower in the world. Then you can visit the Bio-Dome featuring 4 natural ecosystems for students to discover.

The Olympic Stadium

In 1976 Montreal hosted the 21st modern Olympics. The incredible architecture of the stadium is still with us. The tallest inclined tower in the world was designed to hold a retractable roof.

It was in Montreal where Bruce Jenner won the gold medal for the decathlon and Nadia Comaneci got the first perfect score in gymnastics.

Cabane a Sucre

Have lunch or dinner at a nearby Sugar Shack and then finish up your evening with a chansonnier evening featuring “A Brief Canadian History”.

Students on their school trip to Montreal will have the opportunity to practice and improve their French language skills with the locals all the while getting the feel of life in a French-Canadian city. We have many programs to choose from.
