The New York City 'White House'

On November 8th Mr Donald J Trump became the 45th President-Elect of the United States. He will be taking the 'Oath of Office' on January 20 2017 on the West side of the US Capitol looking at on the Mall in Washington DC.

Mr Trump has already indicated he will be splitting his time between DC an New York City. The security of the President of the United States (POTUS) is a top priority and Mr Trump's current residence and office will prove challenging to protect.

He uses the top 3 floors of the 58 story skyscraper the 65th tallest building in the city. This will make protecting the future President more challenging. Traffic is already very difficult in the city and road and pedestrian circulation will be made more difficult with security arrangements.

A good article on Trump Tower and security can be read here in the NY Times

The skyscraper is built is a reinforced concrete, shear wall core structure built by architect Der Scutt. The 28-sided structure, with a jagged facade, was intended to give the tower more windows. Its design would fall with the Post-Modern era of skyscraper architecture as it makes use of mixed materials, glass and metal and also the jagged windowed side gives it a unique visual look from the southwest view.

On your next educational tour to New York City with your students we will make sure to plan for any delays and also making sure we avoid driving near the area when possible, especially around 5th avenue.

Of course getting a glimpse of the POTUS's residence may be unavoidable for future student groups exploring New York City of their class trip.
